Birth: May 3, 1776
Marblehead
Essex County
Massachusetts, USA
Death: Dec. 11, 1822
Randolph County
Illinois, USA

According to 1881 St. Clair County Illinois History, William moved with his family from Vermont to Ohio for four years and then settled on the Horse Prairie, four miles from Red Bud, Randolph, IL ca 1818. The 1847 St. Clair Atlas lists his son living at T2N R7W Sec. 28 and settling in St. Clair Co. in 1818. One researcher states that the family lived in Marietta, OH for a few years, leaving Newbury VT in 1815. The family is not listed in the 1820 Federal Census Index. William is listed in the "Combined History of Randolph, Monroe, and Perry Counties, Illinois" (1883), p. 99, as owning acreage in 1820 in Randolph county. As of Jul 26, 1819 he owned acreage at township 4 South 8 West, which is on the Horse Prairie, near Red Bud, Randolph county, Illinois. William no doubt was born in his parents' house, which as of 1993 still stands in Marblehead, MA on Gingerbread Lane, now known as Black Joe's Tavern.
