John Beacom of Sheldon, a resident of O’Brien county since 1878, passed away very suddenly at his home at 713 East Tenth Street last Friday morning, June 17, at ten o’clock. Death resulted from a heart attack.
John Beacom, son of James Beacom and Ann Laughlin, was born June 14, 1865 at Monticello, Jones county, Iowa and passed away June 17, 1938 at Sheldon, Iowa, at the age of 73 years and 3 days. He came to O’Brien county in 1878 and had resided here ever since.
Mr. Beacom attended public school in this county and in 1895 graduated from Iowa City Commercial college. He farmed in Floyd township until 1898 and then engaged in the farm implement business in Sheldon with his brother, W.H. Beacom.
Mr. Beacom was a member of the Catholic church and had been active in Democratic politics. He never married.
Survivors include three sisters and five brother: Mrs. C.H. Dougherty and Tom Beacom of Sheldon, Mrs. Wm. Bohan of Sanborn, W.H. Beacom of Cottonwood, Minn., C.E. Beacom of St. Cloud, Minn., James Beacom of Los Angeles, George Beacom of Minneapolis and Mrs. Catherine Rinehart of Phillipsburg, Kansas.
His father preceded him in death January 11, 1903 and his mother on January 28, 1907. Two brothers also preceded him in death, Joseph who died at the age of three years and Patrick who died April 11, 1924.
The body was taken from the Houlihan funeral parlors to the C.H. Dougherty home and funeral services were held Monday morning 9:30 o’clock at St. Patrick’s Catholic church, with Rev. James McCormack officiating. Musical selections were furnished by Mrs. M.L. Schultz, Mrs. A.E. Ramsey and Ray Gunter, with Miss Anne O’Donnell at the organ. Palbearers werhe Jack Donohue, Ed Christiany, Bernard O’Donnell, Vetus McCarty, Leo Brendle and August Ossenfourt, with burial in the Catholic cemetery here.

Fisch of Rock Rapids, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Dougherty and Mr. and Mrs. Will Stapleton of Sioux Falls, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Beacom of Sibley, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Burns of Hartley and Mr. and Mrs. Julius Martin of Georgia.
