Funeral For Mrs. Crowdy
Ex-Blairite, 79, Widow Of A. J. Crowdy, Dies In Iowa; Burial In Blair
Mrs. Clara Frances Crowdy, 79, of Villisca, Ia., former Blairite, died there last Wednesday. She was the widow of A. J. (Jack) Crowdy, onetime Blair city councilman whose death occurred May 11, 1939.
The body of Mrs. Crowdy was returned to Blair. Services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Bendorf Funeral Home. The Rev. Melvon Ireland of First Methodist Church was in charge and interment followed in the family lot in Blair Cemetery.
Mrs. Crowdy, as Clara Frances Pierce, was born in Blair Oct. 12, 1875, and spent most of her life here. She and Mr. Crowdy were married Mar. 16, 1898.
Surviving her are three sons, Theodore (Bud) Crowdy of Blair, George Crowdy of Villisca and William Crowdy of Sioux City; and three daughters, Mrs. Don Blume (Bessie) of Sioux City, Mrs. Hans C. Lebbert (Sadie) of Brainerd, Minn., and Mrs. Ruth Johnson of San Bernardino, Calif. There are 18 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Preceding Mrs. Crowdy in death besides her husband were a son, Raymond Crowdy, who died in 1935, and a daughter, Mrs. Sam Morning (Helen), who died in 1951.
Granddaughter Ila Mae Johnson (109953307) is also buried in Blair Cemetery. Her parents were Ruth Croudy and Andrew Victor Johnson.
