Ray Coleman Nicely of Rt. 1, Strasburg, died Tuesday, Sept. 8, 1992, at a Charlottesville hospital. He was 58. He was born in Rockbridge County Nov. 6, 1933, the son of the late Alva Agee Nicely and Mary Scott Hayes Nicely. He was married to Bettie C. Nicely of Fairfield.

Mr. Nicely was an orchard employee with C. L. Robertson in Winchester and a member of the Moose Lodge in Strasburg and of the AARP.

Surviving in addition to his wife are four sons, Billy R. Nicely of Fairfield, Jeffrey S. Nicely of Woodstock, Joseph C. Nicely of Edinburg and Richard E. Nicely of Maurertown; three daughters, Sandra S. Alexander of Woodstock, Melissa A. Hanes of Fairfield, and Mary R. Pruitt of North Wilkensboro, N.C.; two brothers, James E. Nicely of Salisbury, Md., and Alva J: Nicely of Harrisonburg; two sisters, Francis Keller of Sante, Calif., and Mary Jane Duncanson of Terra Alta, W.Va.; and 14 grandchildren.

The Rev. Gene A. Knicely will conduct the funeral Thursday, Sept. 10, 1992, at 2 p.m. at the Fairfield Presbyterian Church. Burial will follow in the Fairfield Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Fairfield Fire Department.
