Benjamin Leinbach was born in Bern Twp. Educated at Epler's and Mine Hole schools and later attended D.B. Brunner's Scientific Academy. His first License to teach was granted to him by County Superintendent S. A. Baer. He was given charge of Rickenbach's School in Bern Twp. in 1875 at the age of 16 years. Some of the pupils were older than he was at the time. After teaching for six years he attended the Keystone State Normal School. At the time of his death at the age of 67 years, 10 months and 21 days, he was one of the best known educators in the area, after spending over 50 years in the classrooms of the surrounding townships and serving on the Leesport Borough Board of Education, being the Secretary at the time of his demise. He also served as a Justice of the Peace since 1903. He was honored by the Veteran Teachers' Association when he rounded out a half century of teaching, by being presented with a purse of gold at the annual session. He was at that time serving as the President of the organization.
