Somerset Daily American July 9, 1952Sam was an electronic engineer in Falls Church and Alexandria, VA. until about 1971-1972 when he bought his father's dairy farm. He is the 4th generation, all named Samuel, to own and operate this farm. He has built a modern tri-level home for his family while his folks still live in theirs. In 1974, they were awarded the coveted Grange Plaque designating that this house as THE HOUSE BY THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. Sam recalls standing on an old rusty ornamental cook stove and peering into the attic above of the old spring house that was torn down about 1940. Memories recall seeing a wealth of what would now be very valuable antiques. She is Catholic and he is U. C. of C. He was Vice-Pres. of the Ass'n. in 1971-1972 and Pres. 1973-1974.

Samuel W. Poorbaugh, 82, Glencoe Road, Fairhope, went to be with the Lord Nov. 14, 2010, at Western Maryland Health System, Cumberland, Md. Born Aug. 7, 1928, in Northampton Township, son of Samuel J. and Elsie Jane (Leister) Poorbaugh. Preceded in death by parents and sisters, Betty Snow and Susan Carol. Survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, the former Anna Darlene Warne; children: Pamela Ann, married to Keith Hetrick, Fort Hill; David Wayne, married to the former Charlene Reed, Fairhope; and Patricia Lynn, married to Jon Marteney, Meyersdale; and grandchildren: James L. Leister and wife Brittany, Kayla Ann Hetrick, Samantha Jane and Mary Catherine Poorbaugh, Justin Michael, Melissa Hope and Kristin Noelle Paul. Brother of Mary Alice, married to Elwood Garlitz, Berlin; Jane Austin, Herndon, Va.; Dorothy Rhone, York; Bonnie Jean Mulvihill of Ligonier; Ray Poorbaugh and wife Wilda, Fredericksburg, Va.; and Richard Poorbaugh and wife Nancy, Port Matilda. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. A 1946 graduate of Berlin Brothersvalley High School and graduate of DeVry Technical Institute, Chicago, Ill. Former testing engineer in Research Firms for the military and space industries, retired dairy and beef farmer and former secretary-treasurer for Northampton Township for many years. Member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Somerset, served on the board of Somerset County Chapter of the Pa. Farmers Association, former board member for the Farmers Home Administration and he was a credentialed cooperative director on the Somerset Rural Electric Board. Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Deaner Funeral Home, Berlin. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Somerset. Monsignor Samuel J. Tomaselli officiating. Committal, Mt. Lebanon Cemetery, Glencoe. Pall bearers will be James Leister, Justin Paul, Robert Snow, Michael Warne, Ray Poorbaugh Jr., and Wayne Sechler. Memorial contributions may be given to St. Peter’s Catholic Church, 433 W. Church St., Somerset, PA 15501.
