Fred Carroll Mabe, 70, Taylor Valley, Virginia passed away on Thursday, October 30, 2008 at Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport, Tennessee. He was a native of Johnson County, Tennessee, and was the son of the late Rufus and Bertha Mabe.

He had lived in Taylor Valley, Virginia for the past forty-four years. He retired from Columbus McKinnon Corporation in Damascus and was a member of the United Steel Workers of America. He had attended the Taylor Valley Church of Christ.

Survivors his wife, Jean Mabe; one daughter, Sheila Thomas, Abingdon, Virginia; one granddaughter, Amanda Thomas, Abingdon, Virginia; four sisters, Phyllis Mast and her husband Carl, Mountain City, Tennessee; Thelma Greer and husband Clarence, Taylor Valley, Virginia; Nancy Lowe and husband Ronnie, Laurel Bloomery, Tennessee and Frances Dowell and husband Ross, Mountain City, Tennessee; one brother, J. R. Mabe and wife Alma, Delaware; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, November 1, 2008 in the Garrett Funeral Home Chapel with Maurice Widener officiating.

Committal service and interment followed at Sunset Memorial Park in Damascus, Virginia.

Pallbearers were selected from family and friends.
