DANIEL O'BRIEN.
The subject of this sketch was born in Ralls county, Missouri, February 9, 1840, and is a son of Daniel and Catherine (Brock) O'Brien. The former was a native of Maryland, and the latter of Kentucky. Mr. O'Brien was educated in the public schools of Ralls county, and resided with his parents until their death. His mother died in 1862, and his father in 1864. In 1869, he was married to Miss Emily J., daughter of Alexander and Emily (McPherson) McMurtry. Mr. O'Brien resided in Ralls county till 1871, and was administrator of his father's estate. He then moved to Marion county, where he owns 560 acres of valuable land, with a fine orchard and good improvements. He took no part in the war, but remained at home unmolested. Mr. and Mrs. O'Brien have had seven children, two of whom are now deceased. Alexander McMurtry, Mary H., Charles, James B., Catherine (dead), Adaline and Daniel. Alexander was thrown from a horse and killed, September 5, 1883. Mr. O'Brien's grandfather, James O'Brien, was one of Kentucky's pioneers, and was killed by the falling of a tree.

Daniel O'Brien.
Daniel O'Brien died at his home about six miles northeast of Hunnewell on Tuesday, July 31, 1900. He sat up with a sick neighbor the night before. About midnight he was taken sick, but not seriously, as he thought, and he did not return home until the following day. He grew rapidly worse and expired about 5 o'clock p.m., death being due to congestive chills. Daniel O'Brien was an excellent citizen and neighbor and one of the most popular men in his community. Deceased was a member of the Catholic church and the remains were laid to rest in the Catholic cemetery near Hunnewell.

LOCAL.
— Daniel O'Brien, north of Hunnewell, died last week and was buried at Hunnewell. He married a daughter of the late Alex McMurtry of this city, and a sister of Mrs. H. C. Carlile, who lives west of town. He leaves a wife and five children. Mr. O'Brien died very suddenly, being sick but 16 hours, and his sickness was not considered serious but a few hours before his death. He was highly esteemed as citizen.
