Nina Stratton Clegg, 84, died February 19, 2013, at her home in Orem, encircled by loved ones.
Nina was born at her parents' home in Orem on October 2, 1928. She was the seventh of the eight children of James George and Nina Snow Vance Stratton. She attended Orem schools, and graduated from Lincoln High School, where she excelled as a student and enjoyed participating in speech and drama activities, vocal performance, and as a member of the Tigerettes. She went on to study at Brigham Young University.
Nina met Floyd Wallace Clegg of Vineyard in 1949, after his return from his mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to western Canada. They were married on January 25, 1950, in the Salt Lake Temple.
Nina and Floyd were the parents of two sons and two daughters: Irving Floyd Clegg, who died at age five; Reva (Lon) Bowen, Orem; Ralph (Diane) Clegg, Orem; and Julie (David E.) Ross, Park City, Utah. She has eight grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
After having her family, Nina went back to school at BYU and earned a bachelor's degree in elementary education, graduating with honors in 1960. She taught first grade in Alpine School District for seven years, then was granted a sabbatical leave to work on a master's degree in speech pathology. After obtaining that degree, she worked as a speech therapist in the school district for another 15 years before retiring. Along with their other career pursuits, she and her husband ran a ten-acre fruit farm together in north Orem for a number of years.
Nina was a faithful member of her church, serving in many callings throughout the years. She especially enjoyed teaching children and working with Cub Scouts. She cared for children in the youth center at the Provo Temple, and later in her life, utilized her special talents and skills to mend clothing at the Mount Timpanogos Temple. She enjoyed assisting as a genealogy consultant and doing indexing and computer work. Nina loved sewing, quilting, handwork and gardening.
Nina is survived by her daughters, son, and their spouses, as well as by her Stratton siblings and in-laws: Marvin (Nanalee) Stratton, Provo; Janet Stratton, Orem; Dorothy (Kent) Fielding, Higganum, Connecticut; Herbert (Susan) Stratton, Orem; Vern (JoAnn) Stratton, Orem; and Emma Houghton, Orem. She was also close to her Clegg in-laws, and is survived by members of Floyd's family: Darrel Clegg, Vineyard; William Fresh, St. George; Norma (Darrell) Jensen, Orem; and Anabel (Don) Savage, Draper.
