In 1850 & 1860, he lived with the George Varnty or Varns family and was a laborer and painter by traded.
A Civil War veteran, he enlisted in Newport, Perry County, August 6, 1862, mustered into federal service at Harrisburg August 13 as a private with Co. I, 133rd Pennsylvania Infantry, promoted to corporal April 30, 1863, and honorably discharged with his company May 21, 1863.
He married Mary A. ? and fathered Alice V. (b. @1870), Benjamin W. (b. @1874), Harry W. (b. @1876), and William W. (b. @1878). In 1880, he lived with his family in Altoona, Blair County.
