Rebecca Sims was born 1720 in Sittenbourne Parish, Richmond City, Henrico County, Virginia, USA. She was the daughter of Thomas Sims (1680-1785) and Rebecca Harrelson Sims (1696-1784).

Rebecca married John P. Petty on November 30, 1725 at St. Thomas Parish in Richmond County, VA. He was the son of Thomas Petty (1675 – 1748) and Catherine Garton Petty (1679 – 1748).

John and Rebecca Sims Petty were the parents of 12 known children: Thomas Petty b.1728, Tabitha Petty b.1731, Sarah Petty b. 1732, Abner Petty b.1733, George Petty b.1734, Zachariah Petty b.1735, Rebecca Petty b.1736, Susannah Petty b.1737, John Petty b.1738, Luke Petty b.1738, Ann Petty b.1744 and Francis Petty b.1751.

Rebecca's Grandfather was Paul Harrelson, will dated 1718 Hanover Co., VA. His children included Peter, Paul, Ann Chiles (md to Henry Chiles), Judith; named his granddaughter Rebecca Simms
