He moved to Los Angeles and studied at Los Angeles City College and later, he served in the Navy during World War II. He appeared in more than 200 films, from his debut in The Mad Game (1933), with Spencer Tracy and Claire Trevor. But he is fondly remembered for his role in the classic 1952 musical Singin' in the Rain (1952), where he played a film director trying to ease a silent-film star into her first talking picture. In television, he is remembered for his role as Doc Holliday in the popular ABC western series "The Life and Legend of Wyatt Earp" (1955) during the 1950s and early '60s. He also appeared in several TV series. He died at the Motion Picture and Television Country House and Hospital, shortly before his 87 birthday. Mr. Fowley, I recently rediscovered the Wyatt Earp tv show in reruns from 1957 (the year I was born) and was blown away by the fact you played both Doc Fabrique an old country dr and later on played Doc Holliday. You were AWESOME in both roles!!! A great ...(Read more) -
