Chris Gutschow died at home in this city at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon of heart trouble. He had an attack on January 28th while on his way home and hasn't been out of the house since. The funeral was held at the home at 2 o'clock and at the Lutheran Church at 2:30, Rev. A. W. Lambrecht officiating.

Christian Gutschow was born in Mechlenberg-Schwerin, Germany, January 5, 1840, and, therefore, was just passed 76 years of age. He served in the war against Bavaria in 64 and 66 and came to this county in 1869.

He was married to Miss Catherine Biffer in 1875 and four children were born to them, Mrs. Sophie Frahm of Calhoun, Fred G. of Crafton, Chris of this city and Mrs. Mae McDonald of Council Bluffs.

She died in 1884 and in 1889 he was married to Anna Auch and to this union three children were born, William, Marguerite and Catherine, who live at home. His second wife died in 1896. He leaves one brother, Jos. Gutschow (105382548) and nineteen grandchildren.

NOTE: Per Omaha Marriages ~ Christian Gutschow; 28; and Catharine "Katy" Biffar; 19; were married in September of 1873 in Douglas County, Nebraska. This conflicts with the obituary, which has a marriage year of 1875. As their oldest daughter was born in 1874, I feel the obituary is most likely incorrect.

NOTE: Parents were Joachim Christian Fredrick Gutschow, Feb 25, 1805 - Dec 9, 1871 and Sophie Marie Dorethea Gutschow, Apr 14, 1814 - Dec 13, 1869. Married on Oct 24, 1833 and buried in Germany.

Gutschow's buried in Block 17, Lot 5:

Catherine, 1894-1974, grave 2
Christian, 1840-1916, grave 3

Katie, 1854-1884, grave 10
Ann, 1869-1896, grave 11

Buried: 3/9/1916 ~ Age: 75
