BENNINGTON -- Hazel Barnard Snow, 100, the widow of Frank Snow Sr., and a resident of Union Street in Bennington, died Saturday, April 7, 2007, at the Centers for Living and Rehabilitation in Bennington following a long illness.
She was born in Ludlow on Sept. 15, 1906, and was the daughter of the late Willis and Mary (James) Barnard. She received her education in Ludlow and was a 1923 graduate of Black River Academy. Hazel had recently received a plaque from Black River Academy designating her as the oldest living graduate. In 1927 she graduated from Rutland Business College.
Mr. and Mrs. Snow were married June 22, 1929, at the Ludlow Congregational Church. Mr. and Mrs. Snow moved to Bennington in 1928. Mr. Snow died March 8, 1980.
In earlier years, Mrs. Snow was employed at the BenMont Paper Company in Bennington. She later retired from Schultz Jewelers.
Mrs. Snow was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Bennington for over 70 years and was a member of Circle 4 at the church.
She was also a member of RSVP in Bennington and the Black River Historical Society. Hazel was a member of the former Bennington Lioness Club.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Doris and Herb West of Brewster, Mass.; a son and daughter-in-law, Frank Snow Jr. and Joan Snow of Bennington; four grandchildren and their spouses, David and Nancy Gage of Worthington, Mass., Brian and Susan Gage of Hinsdale, Mass., Kimberely and Mark Bobish of Valrico, Fla.; her step-granchildren Richard Setzer of Shaftsbury and Deborah McLean of Michigan; and several great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins.
Mrs. Snow is predeceased by one son, Elroy Snow, who died in 1936, and by a sister and three brothers, Doris E. Houseworth, Elroy, Harols, and J. Robert Barnard. She is also predeceased by one grandson, Frank W. Snow III, who died August 11, 2005.
Graveside committal services will be held on Thursday afternoon, April 12 at 1 p.m. at the family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery, with the Rev. Deborah Estey, pastor of the First United Methodist Church of Bennington, officiating.
There are no calling hours scheduled.
