An Old and Respected Citizen Passed Away Easter Sunday
Joy N. Blanchard was born in Whittingham, Vermont, August 17th, 1829. In the year 1863 he moved to Wisconsin where he resided until the spring of 1876 when he came to Delphos, Kansas. Here for 32 years through all the adverse of a new country, and the prosperity of "Sunny Kansas", he had made his home. A man of sterling integrity and worth; always true to the principals of justice and right, and ever ready to do everything in his power for the betterment of humanity.

He was a charter member of the Delphos IOGT, member of Wilderness Post GAR and was a member of the IOOF of nearly 40 years standing.

About three months ago he had an attack of la grippe and a complication of diseases set in. Medical skill, and the ministrations of kind neighbors and loving friends was of no avail, and on Easter Sunday, April 19th, 1908, while the birds were singing and all nature seemed glad, his spirit was released from its tenement of clay and passed to the higher life.

The funeral services were held at his late home conducted by the IOOF. Mrs. Ettie Bledsoe of Kansas City delivered the address. The many beautiful floral pieces were a silent tribute of respect and love for the kind and loving husband and father, friend and brother just passed beyond the veil. He was a firm believer in spiritualism having been convinced of the truth of this beautiful philosophy more than 50 years ago, and his last message to his friends and loved ones was to be true to the cause so dear to his heart. For him death had lost its sting. He said many times, "There is no guessing about it, I know where I am going. An Infinite Goodness rules the universe and all is well."

He leaves a wife, two sons, one brother and a host of other relatives and friends to mourn his departure from this life; but while we mourn angels are celebrating his birth into the life eternal.

"Leaves have their glad recall,
And blossoms open to the south wind's breath
And stars that set shall rise again,
for all things shall triumph o'er the despoiler, Death."

A Card of Thanks
We take this way of thanking the friends and neighbors, especially the Odd Fellows, who assisted during the sickness and death of our beloved husband and father.
