ELECTRA Charles Joe Perry, age 94, of Electra, Texas, passed away May 13, 2011, at his residence.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, May 16, 2011, in the Eastview Cemetery in Vernon, Texas, with Charles Terry, Minister of the Kamay Church of Christ, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Aulds Funeral Home of Electra.
Joe was born November 30, 1916, in Winthrop, Arkansas, to William Dudley Perry and Minnie Alma Gauldin Perry.
He married Clarice Selby on September 16, 1939, in Vernon, Texas. She preceded him in death on November 8, 2005.
Mr. Perry was a resident of Electra since 1940. He was a cowboy who trained and traded horses, rode broncs, and enjoyed rodeos. During World War II, he bought horses and broke them for the United States Army. When he was a young man, he put on a rodeo and gave all of the proceeds to his church to rebuild it after a fire. He had rodeo stock and taught rodeo skills to the school kids in Electra. His heart was always in the saddle. Joe grew up on the Swenson Ranch in West Texas. He worked for several surrounding ranches including the Waggoner Ranch, Jennings Ranch, the Ancell Ranch and the Swanson Ranch. Joe also worked in construction and set the foundation for the Electra Post Office, as well as many other foundations. He was employed by Continental Oil Company for twenty-five years until his retirement. He was a member of the Church of Christ.
Survivors include one son, Charles Perry of Stephenville, Texas; one daughter, Carol Ancell and husband, George of Electra; ten grandchildren. Cindy Stewart. Chris Perry and wife, Kristy, Jolie Teaff and husband, David, Charles Perry and wife, Meredith, Candy Perry, Tina Cato and husband, Coy, Tim Perry, Chuck Perry and wife, Shelly, Shane Perry and wife, Jeanette, and C.J. Perry and wife, Leslie; twenty-five great-grandchildren, Lindsey Maldanado and husband Tino, Landon, Nicholas, Sabrina, Tabitha Patterson and husband, Heath, Ethan, Savannah, Rustin, Zachary, Brittany, Brayden, Steve, Jerry, Justin, Taylor, Taylor, Rhiannon, Kyle, Kenneth, Chandler, Caleb, Peyton, Hank, Nathan and Megan; four great-great-grandchildren, Jayden, Jaxson, Jerron, and Brylan.
He was also preceded in death by two sons, Gerald Wayne Perry and Steve Doyle Perry; three brothers, Raz, Eugene and Robert; and two sisters, Lucy and Irene.
Serving as pallbearers will be his grandsons.
