Everett Walton Gollehon passed away on Monday, July 14, 2008, at his residence in Colonial Heights, TN.
Born July 7, 1919 in Rural Retreat, VA, he was the son of the late Henry Clay and Clemma E. Gollehon. He married Yolanda Bright Johnson on April 2, 1943. He lived most of his life in Kingsport.
Mr. Gollehon was a World War II veteran serving in the U.S. Air Force. Everett was a graduate of Rural Retreat High School in 1938 and also went to the University of Tennessee College of Engineering.
Everett Gollehon lived a life of service. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Kingsport where he served as a deacon. He served his church with outstanding love and devotion as long as his health allowed. Mr. Gollehon had more than 6000 hours of volunteer service at Wellmont Holston Medical Center and also worked as a volunteer for Marsh Regional Blood Bank. He retired from Tennessee Eastman after more than 40 years of service.
Mr. Gollehon is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Yolanda Gollehon; son, Mark Everett Gollehon and wife Dianne, Kingsport, TN; daughter, Renee Skwirz, Springfield, MA; granddaughter, Amy Gollehon, Kingsport, TN; grandson, Daniel Walsh, Springfield, MA; great-granddaughter, Savannah Gollehon, Kingsport, TN; devoted sister-in-law, Jo Duncan and husband, Weldon Duncan, Kingsport, TN; nephew, Billy Payne, Knoxville, TN.
The family will receive friends, Tuesday, July 15, 2008 from 5-7 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Kingsport in the Fellowship Hall. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday in the Fellowship Hall of the First Baptist Church with Dr. Marvin Cameron officiating. Entombment will follow at Oak Hill Memorial Park Mausoleum with military graveside rites conducted by American Legion Post 3/265. Honorary pallbearers will be Big Brothers' Sunday School Class and devoted friend, George Bradley. The family would like to extend their thanks to all friends and neighbors who have helped with food and fellowship throughout Everett's illness and also to all the caregivers who offered such wonderful compassion and loving care. A special thank you to special friend and caregiver, Tina Kissick, your love and support will never be forgotten.
