Retired Teacher-Farmer, John G. Snyder, Dies at 86
BROWNSVILLE--John G. Snyder, 86-year-old retired farmer and former school teacher died at noon Friday at Heritage House Nursing Home in Richmond. His home was on R.R. 4, Liberty.
A graduate of Miami University, in Oxford, Ohio, Mr. Snyder taught school in Illinois for 10 years before coming to Brownsville Township in Union County where he farmed the remainder of his active life.
While in Illinois, he coached Hinsdale High School to the state basketball championship in 1909.
Mr. Snyder was a charter member and past president of the Union County Farm Bureau. He also was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Liberty, the Brownsville Masonic Lodge, the Order of Eastern Star and the Scottish Rite.
Survivors include four sons, Martin of Richmond, J. Burdette of Toledo, Ohio, Roland of Liberty and Rev. Louis Snyder of Williamsburg; one daughter, Mrs. William Kare of Richmond; one sister, Mrs. Marie Beane of Eaton, Ohio; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

As a student at Miami University, Snyder was also one of 21 founding members of the Non-Fraternity Association, now Phi Kappa Tau national fraternity.
