Born in Brixton, Surrey, London. Served in the London Fire Brigade as a coachman at the Knightbridge station in London. Married Lillian Haylock in 1916 and they emigrated to USA about 1919. Lillian died in March, 1924 and they had no children. Arthur James (always called "Jim" by family and friends)married Winifred Tresfon Lyndon in December, 1924. (She was a divorcee and had a son). He and Winifred had two children and lived most of their married life in California. Jim became a carpenter and cabinet maker by trade. In 1934 he worked on the construction of Boulder (Hoover)Dam, in Nevada. This was during the time of the "Great Depression" in USA.
