| Birth: | Jan. 21, 1761 | | Death: | Mar., 1829 |  Spanish Statesman. In 1810 he was elected member of the Spanish Cortes for Badajoz. His most important contributions were the abolition of the inquisition and being the main writer of the first Spanish Constitution of 1812. He was elected Bishop of Guadix by the government, but Pope Pio VII opposed this so he never practised. When Fernando VII returned to the throne he fled to Portugal, where he was imprisoned, and later died. (bio by: Bunny Boiler)
