Raymond C. Thompson, 65, died at 6:20 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 29, 1988, at St. Louis University Medical Center, following a lengthy illness.
The U.S. Army World War II veteran was a painter at Principia College in Elsah 31 years, retiring in 1986. Born in Greene County, he was the son of the late Logan and Viola (Bowers) Thompson.
He married the former Rose Irene Scoggins July 20, 1946, in Kane, and she survives. Also surviving are four daughters, Betty Cummings of
Jerseyville, Hazel June Turner of Dow, Joyce Beavers of Medora and Janet VanMeter of
Jerseyville; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Brown of California and Cecile Russell of Brighton; and five brothers, Truman Thompson of Godfrey, Russell Thompson of Kane, Herman "Pete" Thompson of Tacoma, Wash., Donald Thompson of Granite City and James Thompson of Dow. Preceding him in death were two brothers, Charles William
and Logan Thompson Jr.; and a sister, Hazel May Thompson. Burial was in Mount Gilead Cemetery near Carrollton.
