Chicago Park District Police Officer, killed in the line of duty, as he approached 3 men who were in the process of robbing a couple sitting in a parked automobile in Humboldt Park, Chicago, Illinois. The shooter, 22 year old Jerry Mangano was originally sentenced to the electric chair, but later sentenced to 199 years in prison after an appeal. Mangano died of an unknown cause in 1946 after serving 5 years. Italo Begani and Joseph Russano also served prison sentences in connection to the murder.
Officer Francois was married to Nellie, nee Lewis. He was the father of two small children, four year old Barbara and two year old Donald . He was the son of Frank Francois and Mary Bauman.
