-Mrs. Lucy Clements, one of the oldest residents in this community, died very suddenly last Wednesday, July 28, at the residence of her son, Wm. Clements. She was sitting on the portico, apparently in her usual health, when she complained of pain in her side. Before she could be removed into the house the vital spark had fled. Lucy Kirby was born April 24, 1801, in Harrison county, Ky., making her 85 years 3 months and 4 days old at the time of her death. When a young woman she went with her parents to Ralls County, Missouri, where she was married to James Clements. Afterwards they removed to Indiana, and about the year 1830, they came to this county, where she has been a continuous resident ever since. Her husband, who died about 14 years ago, is remembered by the old settlers as one of the best and most accommodating neighbors of the early days.
She raised a family of children who grew to manhood and womanhood possessing those qualities that go to make good and useful citizens. Richard, who is now living in Barton county, Mo., Rutha, the wife of Wm. Johnson, is living in Somer township; Susannah, who married Elisha Corray, she died June 3, 1883; William Clements is living in Urbana township, Hannah Moss, who is now living in Missouri, and James, of Somer township. The funeral took place, Thursday at the Prairie Hope church, Rev. Robert Harris officiating and the remains were interred in the old Clements burying ground. August 2, 1886.
