Services will be held for Raymond Mills McAdam at the Doughty-Calhoun-OMeara Funeral Home at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 29, 2004. Interment will be held at 3:00 p.m., at the West Side District Cemetery in Taft. The McAdam family recently moved from Bakersfield to Laguna Hills. Members of the Shrine Club will be Honorary Pallbearers.
Masonic services will be conducted by the Caledonia Masonic Lodge #486. Reverend Gary W. Vaughn of the University Baptist Church will assist. At graveside a Veterans Burial Team will participate.
Raymond was born in Lemoore, California on October 22, 1915 and passed away on April 21, 2004, at 7:00 a.m. He graduated from the Taft Union High School in 1933 and Taft Junior College in 1935. He worked for the Oilfields Dispatch Newspaper as a printer, and for the Standard Oil Company until 1940 when he moved to Bakersfield and started to work for the Halliburton Services. He worked for Halliburton for 33 years retiring as a Field Supervisor. During that time he also worked for the company in Ventura and Avenal.
Ray McAdam served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was a 50-year member of the Caledonia Masonic Lodge #486, F.& A.M., Bakersfield Scottish Rite Bodies, Kern County Shrine Club, Moble Nobles, Shrine Club Petroleum Unit, Al Malaikah Temple, and the Petroleum Production Pioneers. He worked many years on the Shrine Potato Bowl game.
He is survived by his wife of 68.5 years, Melba McAdam. Other family members are his daughter, Alice and husband, John Olson of Mission Viejo, California. The grandchildren are Bob Olson and wife, Lynne of Spokane, Washington; Kathy Merwin and husband, Matthew; Bill Olson and wife, Tracy all of Mission Viejo. He also has great-grandchildren, Christa, Tim, and Kate Olson; Kimberly and her husband, Joel Hansen of Spokane, Washington; Nancy and her husband, Ryan Maroney; John Merwin; Ashley and Taylor Olson of Mission Viejo. Raymond was preceded in death by his brother, William H. McAdam of Newport Beach. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Janet McAdam of San Diego and his aunt, Frances Anderson of Oildale. He leaves his cousin, Keith Bright of Independence and many other cousins from Taft and Bakersfield.
