Joseph B. Borneo Sr., 91, of Beaver Falls, died Thursday, Jan. 17, 2008, in the Providence Care Center.
Born Nov. 22, 1916, in Beaver Falls, he was the son of the late Bruno and Catherine Morabito Borneo, and stepson of the late Leonard Orsini. He was a member of the Divine Mercy Parish, the Holy Name Society, and was the oldest member of the Sons of Italy Club in Beaver Falls. He had been a member of the Happy Bunch Square Dancing group and a former member of the Beaver Falls Lions Club. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and was stationed in Alaska. He was a shoemaker for over 60 years, having owned and operated the Borneo Shoe Service in Beaver Falls until his retirement in 2003, and was a former officer in the Beaver Valley Shoe Repairman's Guild.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Rita M. Farinelli Borneo on Feb. 29, 2004; a brother, Anthony Borneo, and three sisters, Angie Mano, Nellie Farinelli, and Rose Pace.
He is survived by his five children and their spouses: sons, Joseph B. Jr. and Connie Borneo, Chippewa Township; Leonard and Carol Borneo, Rio Rancho, New Mexico; Daniel and Amy Borneo, Corrales, New Mexico; David Borneo, Beaver, and a daughter and son-in-law, Debi and Gary Menges, Adams Township; 10 grandchildren and their spouses, Brooke and Nate Goshen, Ashlee and Christopher Kovell, Christopher Borneo, Jennifer Menges, Matthew Menges, Pilar Borneo, Quinlyn Borneo, Jacob Borneo, Danielle and Michael Jarman, and Anthony J. Borneo; six great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn Borneo-Burns, Asher and Collin Jarman, Bennett and Wesley Goshen, and Zachary Kovell, and a sister-in-law, Catherine Borneo, Beaver Falls.
Friends will be received on Saturday from 1 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the HILL & KUNSELMAN FUNERAL HOME, www.hillandkunselman.com, 3801 Fourth Ave., College Hill, Beaver Falls, where prayers will be recited on Monday at 9:20 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. in the Divine Mercy Parish, St. Mary's Church, 605-10th Street, Beaver Falls.
There will be no visitation on Sunday.
Private burial will take place in St. Mary's Cemetery, Chippewa Township.
