Enlisted, June 30, 1916, in Troop E, 1sy NY Cavalry, in Brooklyn, NY. Served with Troop E, 1st NY Cavalry, on the Mexican Border, July 1916 - March 20, 1917. The 1st NY Cavalry reorganized for the World War as the 104th & 106th Machine Gun Battalions, 27th Division. He was assigned to Company C, 106th Machine Gun Battalion, 27th Division. Transferred to Headquarters Company, 27th Division, then to F Battery , 104th Artillery, 27th Division. Once more he was transferred to Headquarters Company, Feb 27, 1918. He saw combat in both Belgium & France. Returned from France, March 6, 1919, docking at Hoboken, NJ. He marched in the " Welcome Home Parade ", for the 27th Division, up 5th Avenue, in New York City. Discharged from the service, April 1, 1919, Camp Upton, NY.
