Huldah Moyston Demaree daughter of Colonel Casper and Calista Budd was born September 12, 1817, near Xenia, Ohio, and died at the home of her son, C. C. Demaree, September 19, 1913, age 86 years and 8 days. She was the oldest of a family of ten children. Her parents immigrated to Indiana, in 1840 and settled in Parke County. She was married on March 1, 1849 to John S. Demaree by Rev. Samuel Taylor. After her marriage she united with the Presbyterian Church. Though deprived of her church privileges on account of ill health, yet she maintained her Christian faith, and died in the full assurance of a glorious immortality. She was the mother of four sons, Cornelius C., Howard I., David G., and Charles L., all of whom lived to mourn her departure. Her husband preceeded her to the great beyond, March 11, 1892. She also leaves one sister, Mrs. H. H. Lough of Waveland and two brothers, Daniel Budd of Washington and Clay Budd of Maple Plains, Minn., eleven grandchildren and six great grandchildren. She was a tender, loving wife, a kind affectionate mother, a true friend and an obliging neighbor. During the last years of her life she was a great sufferer and for the last three years had mostly been confined to her bed. The last two days of her sickness , the suffering was very severe, yet she passed away calmly and without a struggle. Funeral services at the home on Monday morning were conducted by Rev. F. B. Solin. Interment at Maple Ridge.
