LDS Church News 18 Sep 99, P2

Long-time member of the LDS Church's Primary General Board Edna Michelsen Faux died on September 7th. Sister Faux, who served on the board from 1947 to 1972 was 99.

Faux was also well known as a teacher, author and editor. She wrote and directed the 1947 pioneer centennial pageant for the Primary organization, called "All Nations Shall Be Gathered Unto Zion." She was also instrumental in integrating the Boy Scout program into the Primary. She later received the Silver Fawn Award for her service to Scouting.

Obituary - Born on January 28, 1900 during what she would later describe as one of the worst snowstorm of the winter season, Edna Michelsen Faux passed away peacefully on September 7, 1999 on one of the last beautiful sunrises of summer.

Her life of love, service and achievement spanned nearly 100 years. Her beloved parents were Frederick Michael and Gertrude Read Michelsen. She enjoyed the companionship of five brothers: Read, Walter, Louis (all deceased) and Lynn and Maurice, both of Salt Lake City. Her greatest love was for her family.

She married her eternal companion, Merrill Charles Faux, on June 23, 1927 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. To them were born four children who survive her with their spouses: Charles (Donna) Faux, Yvonne (Jerry) Wiest, Winston (Marji) Faux, all of Salt Lake City, and Annette (Alan) Anderson, American Fork, Utah whose husband is presently serving as President of the Rio De Janeiro North Mission.

Missing her greatly will be 16 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren of whom four are presently serving LDS missions, and one great-great-granddaughter who bears her name.

Her pursuit of education included graduation from LDS University and the University of Utah (1923) where she participated in the development of Mortar Board, Delta Gamma Sorority, and Omicron Nu, Honors Society for Women in home economics. Her capacity to serve afforded her opportunities to become involved in the PTA organization at East High School and in politics as a member and officer of the Women's Legislative Council. She taught at Murray High and Bryant Junior High. Her passion for drama and the theater was a driving force throughout her entire life. She performed, wrote, directed and produced many programs for the University and the community.

Her dedication and love for the Savior was evidenced by her service in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was a teacher, author, and editor. She was invited to write and direct the 1947 Centennial pageant for the Primary Organization entitled, "All Nations Shall Be Gathered Unto Zion." During rehearsals, she was called to the Primary General Board, where she served for 25 years. She chaired the committee for integrating Boy Scouting into Primary. For her many years of service in Scouting, she received the prestigious Silver Fawn Award. Her additional assignments included lesson preparation, editing and participation on the Church Correlation Committee.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 13, at 12 noon in the Forest View Ward, 1111 East Charlton Ave. (2815 So 11th East). Friends may call Sunday evening from 6:30-8 p.m. at Larkin Mortuary, (260 E South Temple), and on Monday from 10-11:30 a.m. at the Ward. Services are under the direction of Anderson and Sons Mortuary of American Fork, Utah. Interment will be at Wasatch Lawn Cemetery, 3401 South Highland Drive.
