Sally Smith Mitchell

FITZGERALD — Sally Smith Mitchell, 92, of Fitzgerald, died Tuesday, June 12, 2007, at Crowne Health Care in Eufaula, Ala. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel, Fitzgerald, with Kelly Brown officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at the funeral home.

Mrs. Mitchell was born July 15, 1914, in Osierfield, to the late Grover Cleveland and Hattie Rebecca Walsh Smith. She lived in the community most of her life and was a former resident of Baltimore, Md. Mrs. Mitchell was a member of the Women’s Club, American Legion Auxiliary, UDC, Order of the Eastern Star and the Green Thumb Garden Club. She was a homemaker and a Gray Lady at the Ben Hill County Hospital. Mrs. Mitchell was a member of First Baptist Church.

Mrs. Mitchell is survived by her three sons and a daughter, James R. Mitchell of Port Arthur, Texas, Theodore “Ted” Mitchell of Fitzgerald, Robert M. “Bobby” Mitchell of Eufaula, Ala. and Joyce Werner of Lake Worth, Fla.; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; brother, Grover Henry Smith of Ocala, Fla., and special friend, Gene Heninger. She was preceded in death by her husband, John C. Mitchell Sr.; son, John C. Mitchell Jr.; son-in-law, George Werner; two brothers and one sister.
