Word of the death of A. Beegle, former merchant in Grand Island, and later of Hope, Arkansas, came as a shock to his family and friends. Letters to his children last week indicated no change in his customary good health. For many years so active in community affairs of this locality, Mr. Beegle was highly admired and respected. Until a few years ago he conducted a shoe business here as a partner of H. E. Decatur, of Boston, Mass. In 1919 his sons bought out the interests of Mr. Beegle and the firm became known as Beegle's store. In 1928 the business was purchased by the Twidale Shoe company which now conducts the store.

Born in Claysburg, Pa., January 27, 1857, Mr. Beegle lived in the west from the time he was 18 years of age until his death on March 18. In 1889 he went from Kansas, where he settle first to St. Paul, Nebraska, and in 1892, he came to Grand Island where he set up the shoe store known as the Yellow Front store. In 1880 he married Miss Florence Gillespie. Two children were born to them. After the death of his first wife, Mr. Beegle married Nettie Beegle of Sedalia, Mo. The couple became parents of five children. Mrs. Beegle died in 1917, and some time later, Mr. Beegle married Mrs. Fannie Steen of Omaha. For the greater part of the past four years he has spent his time on a farm near Hope, Ark. During his Grand Island residence, he served as president of the Retail Merchants' association, was a member of the St. Paul's German Lutheran church and was affiliated with Ashler Lodge No. 33, A.F. & M. Duel chapter No. 11, R.A.M. and Mr. Lebanon Commandery, K.P. and Royal Highlanders.

Immediate relatives surviving include his widow, four sons, Clifford and Albert of Grand Island, Austin of Lincoln, Harry of Beaver, Okla.; two daughters, Mrs. Cora Schaeffer, of Altoona, Pa., and Fay Beegle of Grand Island; one sister, Mrs. Ida Flock, of Altoona, Pa. Burial will be made in the Grand Island cemetery.
