Mrs. J. H. Huegel is Killed By Auto.

Lighting Superintendent's wife struck while returning from theater..

Business man held in case.

While her husband strove vainly to reach and draw her out of danger, Mrs. Josephine Huegel, wife of John H Huegel, superintendent of public lighting in the city, was struck and fatally injured by an automobile last night. The accident happened at Breintnall Place and Summit street as Mr. and Mrs. Huegel were on their way from the theater to their home at 318 Bank street. Sustaining a fractured skull and internal injuries, Mrs. Huegel died soon afterward at the City Hospital.

The driver of the machine, William Zorrer, of 168 South Eighth street, secretary of R. A. McDonough & Co. of 406 Central avenue, arrested after the accident, was released today by the prosecutor's office on $2,500 bail on a charge of manslaughter. He was arraigned before Judge Pilgrim in the Fourth Precinct Court. The car belonged to Richard A. McDonough of South Orange, head of the firm.

Mr. and Mrs. Huegel were about to cross the street when Zorrer, driving east in Breintnall place, approached. Mrs. Huegel did not see the car until too late. As her husband leaped forward she was hit, rolling over several times. Picked up by Zorrer-who stopped his machine immediately, she was taken by him to the City Hospital. From there he was taken into custody.

Besides her husband, who was ill in bed today from the shock, Mrs. Huegel is survived by nine chldren and one sister. She was sixty-five years old and had spent all her life in this city. She was a member of St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church.

The children who survive are Mrs. Oscar Gifford of 41 Edgar street, East Orange; Mrs. Ella Rible of Belmar and Mrs. Joseph McDonald., Miss Florence Huegel and Frank C. and Charles C. Huegel, at home; Mrs. Charles Connolly, 320 Bank St, J. William Huegel, a former Assemblyman, of 96 Columbia avenue, and Robert J. Huegel of 209 Nye avenue. Mrs. Francis Hirschmann of 573 Bergen street is a sister. Mrs. Huegel was also a sister of the late sergeant of detectives, Julius Jaeger.
