WILLIAMSPORT - FOSTER EUGENE BOWERS SR, 75, one of the last surviving C&O Canal boatsmen, died Monday at his home, 119 W Potomac St.

He was the son of Wesley E and Laura E Cramer Bowers, and the husband of the late Sarah E Hoover Bowers.

He was a retired employee of W D Byron & Co, where he had worked for 50 years, and was a charter member of Sunset Church of God.

He is survived by children, Mrs. Marcella G Kirby, Thomas W, Mrs. Phyllis Turner, Foster E Jr, Phillip L, Orville L, Norman E, Mrs. Sarah Hock, Donald W, all of Williamsport; Paul R, Norristown, Pa; Joseph L and David, at home; sisters, Winnie L Hoffman and Beatrice Straley of Williamsport; Mrs. Frances Bond, Hagerstown; brothers, Claudius E and Gyrlen L of Williamsport; 18 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Services will be Wednesday at the Sunset Church of God at 2 pm. The Rev D L Abbott will officiate. Burial will be in River View Cemetery. Arrangements were handled by the Grove Funeral Home of Williasmport.
