from the Daily Evening Herald:
DICKS - Died in Oskaloosa, Iowa, Aug. 5, 1893, Mrs. Anna Dicks in the 85th year of her age.
Mrs. Dicks' maiden name was Smith. She was born in Delaware county, Ohio, in 1808. In her 20th year she was married to Joseph Dicks, and to them was born a large family; but all have passed away but one son and two daughters: Mrs. Lyman Stanley and Mrs. George Acomb. Mrs. Dicks lived with her daughter, Mrs. Acomb, for several years after the death of her husband, which occurred some twenty-five years ago. Early in the summer she desired to visit Mr. & Mrs. Stanley, of this city, and did so. But it soon became manifest that it was her last visit. The hand of death slowly led her on over the narrow sea that divides the Heavenly land from ours. But Mrs. Dicks had looked the journey over for many years. She joined the Baptist church in her youth and was always true to her early convictions. Mrs. Dicks had lived for 38 years in Iowa. Both her daughters were with her when she died. The writer was called to conduct the funeral services, and several passages of scripture were read and prayers offered. Part of the choir of the Presbyterian church were present and rendered appropriate sonsg. Mother Dicks now sleeps the blessed sleep of death in Forest cemetery, our beautiful city of the death.
