MIDLAND Susie Virginia "Sue" Bradford Norris, 88, of Midland, died Wednesday, February 25, 2009, in Graham, Texas.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Marion Wells Norris; children, Virginia Kaye Norris, Robert Norris, Janie Norris Simmonds. She is also preceded in death by her parents, H. Arch Bradford and Nelia J. Bradford; and brother, Talmadge Bradford.

Born in Winnfield, Louisiana, on April 3, 1920, Sue grew up in Minden, Louisiana. She married Marion Wells "Bubba" Norris on March 28, 1938. Through Bubba's work with Mobil Oil Company, they lived in many towns throughout west Texas and eastern New Mexico, settling in Odessa and finally Midland. After raising their children, the two enjoyed traveling and especially loved fishing.

A gifted artist, Sue's paintings fill the walls of her home. From landscapes covered in Texas bluebonnets to striking floral arrangements, her paintings are cherished by family members and grandchildren. She also was an accomplished seamstress. Through the years, she sewed beautiful clothing for herself, her daughter, Janie, and her grandchildren. Her creations ranged from richly colored afghans that will be handed down through the generations and everyday potholders that grace kitchens of many.

After Bubba's death in 1977, she directed her creative talents to beginning "MS Originals," a business specializing in silk floral arrangements. She enjoyed trips to "Market" in Dallas for shopping as well as creative inspiration. Especially meaningful to her grandchildren and even great grandchildren were the hand-made "clown boy" dolls that were loved to the point of tatters and the incomparably delicious layered chocolate cake that always was present on visits with Granny.

She is survived by six grandchildren, Jim Norris of Calgary, Canada, Tracey Norris of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Scott Norris of Peralta, New Mexico, Shelley Simmonds Weidenbach of Rockwall, Texas, Carey Simmonds Woodward of Breckenridge, Texas and J. M. Simmonds IV of Austin; son-in-law, Judge James M. Simmonds; nine great-grandchildren; two great great-grandchildren; two sisters, Marie Bradford Jackson and Dannie Bradford Waters; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 2, 2009, at Sunset Memorial Gardens, 6801 E. Highway 80, Odessa. Pastor Gary Dyer of Midland's First Baptist Church will be officiating. Visitation will be Sunday March 1, 2009 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Sunset Funeral Home.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Sunset Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home.
