Nelson Kelley "Nellie" Briles
Birth: Aug. 5, 1943
Death: Feb. 13, 2005

Major League Baseball Player. He played Major League baseball as a pitcher for fourteen seasons (1965 to 1978) with the St. Louis Cardinals, Pittsburgh Pirates, Kansas City Royals, Texas Rangers, and Baltimore Orioles. He made his major league debut at age 21. At age 24 he was pitching in the 1967 World Series for the Cardinals against the Boston Red Sox, winning Game 3 for the eventual champions. The next year saw the Cardinals return to the World Series against the Detroit Tigers, Tigers, and he pitched a losing game in Game 2, and had a no-decision in the Cardinals' Game 5 loss. Traded to the Pirates, Briles appeared in his third World Series in 1971, and the Pirates met the Baltimore Orioles. He pitched in Game 5 of the Series shutting out Orioles on two singles, and contributing to Pittsburgh's victory in seven games over Baltimore. His career record was 129 wins, 112 losses, 22 saves, and a career 3.44 earned run average. (bio by: Gardee Hill)

Nelson-Saw you at Wrigley, when you struck out Williams , Santo and Banks I said who is this pitcher ? I was a young baseball fan at the time, and I could recognize talent. A very underrated pitcher with Great stuff.
