Born Nov. 2, 1919, in Danville, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Martin Walker and the late Maggie Elizabeth Scearce Walker.
Mrs. Abbott was a member of Shermont Baptist Church for over 33 years, where she sang in the choir and served on the flower and bereavement committees. She lived all her life in Danville, where she attended local schools. For ten years, she worked in the inspection room at Dan River Inc., and later worked for Star Tube Paper Company.
She was first married to Paul Webber. She later married the late Clyde Blackwell Abbott.
She is survived by three daughter, Carolyn Paulette Bennett and husband, Walter E. Bennett of Danville, Donna Slaughter Jillson and husband, Joseph Jillson of Atlanta, Ga., and Juanita Sue Wilkerson and Turner Swicegood of Danville; a son, Larry D. Webber and wife, Sandra Webber of Pelham, N.C.; a sister, Lillie Mae Raines of Danville; a sister-in-law, Louise Walker of Danville; five grandchildren, Amanda Smith, Blake Duvernay, Christopher Slaughter, Sherri Barnes, and Bree Nichol; eight great-grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, and two step-great-grandchildren. In addition, she is survived by "Angel Joy," her precious poodle.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, November 16 at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating ministers will be the Rev. Gary Tucker, the Rev. Daryl Joyce, and the Rev. Bill Soyars; also, there will be a special eulogy and song by her son, Larry Webber. Interment will be in Mt. View Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, November 15 at Swicegood Funeral Home, 564 West Main Street; at other times they will be at the residence, 204 Westhampton Avenue.
