Sam Cooper Altman of Kensington, retired employee of International Paper Co., died at the Georgetown County Memorial Hospital Wednesday after several years of ill health and a critical illness of several days.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. in Prince George, Winyah, Protestant Episcopal Church. Officiating will be the Rev. E. Irwin Hulbert Jr. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery under the direction of Mayer Funeral Home.

Mr. Altman, a son of the late Sam Cooper Altman and the late Mrs. Margie Ann Burrows Altman, was born near Rhems in Williamsburg County Feb. 20, 1898.

He was a farmer in Georgetown County for many years and was also bird, game, and fish warden for the International Paper Company as long as his helath permitted.

He was twice married. His first wife, Ida Prevatte Altman, died March 23, 1943.

Surviving are: his widow, Mrs. Anna High Sides Altman; his sons, Sam C. Altman Jr. and Bobby Altman, both of Georgetown; two stepsons.

He was survived by his wife, Anner Blanche High Sides Altman of Georgetown; two sons, Sam Cooper Altman Jr. and Bobby Altman, both of Georgetown; two stepsons, Richard Sides of Georgetown and Don Sides of the US Army; three stepdaughters, Mrs. Wyman Williams of Hemingway, Mrs. Wade Thomas of Oklahoma, and Mrs. Rhodus W. Ward Jr. of Georgetown; and two sisters, Mrs. Sadie Barnes of Maryland and Mrs. Johnnie Barnes of Georgetown.
