William was the son of Christian Wagaman, Sr. (1783-1853) and his second wife, Catherine Miller (1808-1885). William's paternal grandfather was William Wagemann, the pioneer, who was born about 1753 and died in 1836 in Elkhart County, Indiana.

Catherine was born 15 August 1839, the daughter of Eli and Catherine (Ephert) Marker. William and Catherine left Ohio about 1864 and settled near Cedar Bluffs in Cedar County, Iowa.

In 1868, they moved near Kinross in Keokuk County, Iowa and according to the Keokuk County History (pub.1903) at one time William owned 393 acres of farmland. " the greater part of which is under a high state of cultivation and well improved, the owner being recognized as a progressive, industrious and intelligent farmer.

Mr. Wagamon is a Democrat in his political views. He was at one time a director in the Savings Bank at Kinross and is now one of its stockholders". William died 14 September 1910 and Catherine died 27 October 1922.
