Major League Baseball Player. Born William Vincent Glynn he served with the US Military during World War II and following his return, he was signed as an amateur free agent by the Philadelphia Phillies in 1946. He marked his Major League debut on as a late year call-up on September 16th, 1949 and played in 8 games at the first-base position with the Phillies that year. He spent the next two years (1950 to 1951) in the Minor and Pacific Coast League before being obtained by the Cleveland Indians in 1952. In 1953, he secured the starting first-baseman spot and produced a career-high 100 hits in 147 games that year. Glynn experienced World Series action as a member of the 1954 American League Pennant-winning Indians' squad and recorded a double during in 2 games during the 1954 World Series. Another significant accomplishment in his career was a 3 home run game he achieved against the Detroit Tigers on July 5th, 1954. In 310 regular season games, he compiled 170 hits with a .249 lifetime batting average. After retiring from baseball, he worked in the private sector. (bio by: C.S.)
