DINGMANS FERRY, Pa. — Elsie A. Bensley, a lifelong resident of Dingmans Ferry, Pa., died July 5, 2011, in Mainland Hospital, Galloway Township, N.J. She was 92.
She was born April 28, 1919, in Jersey City, N.J., the daughter of Otto W. and Emma (Bremer) Kittel.
She was married to Carl Bensley, who predeceased her in 1981.
Mrs. Bensley was employed by the U.S. Postal Service as a clerk and postmaster at the Dingmans Ferry Post Office from 1957-61.
During her later working years, she managed the historic Dingmans Ferry Toll Bridge. In earlier years her family lived and worked at YMCA Camp Speers-Eljabar.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Dingmans Ferry, the American Legion Post 851 Auxiliary, the Delaware Township-Dingmans Ferry Historical Society and the National Association of Retired Postal Workers. She served as executive director of the American Cancer Society of Pike County.
She is survived by her son John O. Kraft and his wife, Mara, of Egg Harbor Township, N.J.; daughter-in-law Elizabeth Kraft of Lykens, Pa.; grandson Jesse C. Kraft and his wife, Natalie, of Ocean City, N.J.; great-granddaughter Jemma Michele; nieces Vivian Olver and Jean Doll; nephew Otto H. Kittel; and cousins Theodore Bremer and Barbara Cole.
She was predeceased by her brother Otto H. Kittel and her son Henry J. Kraft.
Funeral services were July 8 at Stroyan Funeral Home, Milford, Pa. Burial was in Delaware Cemetery, Dingmans Ferry, Pa.
