IS A BRIDE AT SIXTEEN
Youthful Couple from Mendon Married by Justice Lowry Yesterday.
Groom, Aged 21, is F. W. Todd, and Bride Miss Jennie G Wartick.
She was but sweet sixteen; Skirts bearly below the knees, hair in braids, in fact nothing but a mere girl. Yet Cupid had made a slave of her heart and with her youthful lover, the visit to the marrying justice at Quincy was made.
With cheeks Glowing with the health of a girl reared on the farm, eyes flashing and heart happy she took the venerable Justice of the Peace Lowry nearly off his feet, when at 2 o'clock she appeared before that gentleman. In her wake, came a youth not more than 21, behind whom were two older men, the fathers of the couple, who came along to see that there were no hitch in the program.
Despite his age, Judge Lowry did not have to ask the purpose of the visit. A handshake around and he immediately proceeded to business. The necessary marriage license was produced, and after scanning the page a moment, the "judge" spoke the words that joined the lives of the youthful couple. With his congratulations and good wishes the quartet left to return to the bride's home, where the two mothers had arranged a regular old-fashioned supper such as a farm-wife alone know how to prepare.
The two families spent the evening together, there being present also a number of young people living in the neighborhood.
The bride and groom were Miss Jennie Wartick, daughter of John Wartick, and farmer who gave his address at Mendon, and Fred W Todd, also a farmer of the same place. The party drove in early yesterday morning and shortly before dinner visited the county clerk, where the wedding permit was secured. Mr and Mrs Todd will live on the farm of the latter's father temporarily at least.
