Musician. He was a self-taught musician who played 22 instruments. As a member of the Roy Rogers western music group, “The Sons of the Pioneers” for 22 years he performed nation wide and every summer at the Roy Rogers-Dale Evans Museum and Happy Trails Theater in Branson, Missouri. An all around entertainer with lots of humor, he sang lead vocals, played guitar, saxophone, banjo, trumpet, fiddle, clarinet and jug. His trademark song was "Mamma Don't Allow No Music Playin' Round Here," in which he performed on all of his instruments. He had a long varied musical career that included working with Al Hirt and Pete Fountain at the 500 Club in New Orleans, and with the Spike Jones band on, "The Midwestern Hayride" WLS radio show in Chicago in the early 1950s. He also led the Sunny Spencer Orchestra and the Sunny Spencer Trio, performing for many years at the Hacienda and Frontier Casinos in Las Vegas.
