Mary Jane (Crites) Krefft, 90, a lifelong resident of Chicago, died Sunday evening, Jan. 27, 2013. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 1, at St. Juliana Church in Chicago. Burial will be in Ridgewood Memorial Park in Des Plaines.
Mrs. Krefft was born in December 1922. She married Harold Herman Krefft on July 2, 1949, and he preceded her in death on June 5, 1996. In 1942, she tried to get into the Army but was unable as she was not 21-years-old. In May of 1943, she joined the Navy at the age of 20 with parental permission. After basic training in New York and Stillwater, OK, she was stationed at the Naval Hydrographic Office in Suitland, MD. Mrs. Krefft made charts and maps for the Navy and received an honorable discharge in December of 1945 from the Great Lakes Training Station. She was a Chicago Cubs fan all her life. She is survived by five children, Margaret (husband Frank) Cannella of Alto, NM, Robert (wife Marina) Krefft of Darien, Donald (wife Nancy (Dressen)) Krefft of Litchfield, Jan (husband Jeff) LeClere of Mt. Prospect and Joan (husband Roger) Green of Brookfield, WI; ten grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
