Melissa Alice Thompson, 87, of near Kirklin, died Monday at 1:30 a.m. at the Clinton County Hospital of complications following an illness of several months.
She was born in Champaign County, Illinois, October 27, 1868, the daughter of Bartimus and Mary (Botkin) Hall. On October 30, 1884, she was married to David L. Thompson, who died February 2, 1941.
She was a member of the Kirklin Presbyterian Church and served as the first president of the women's organization of the church in 1903. Since the death of her husband, she had made her home with a daughter, Mrs. Glen Hendricks, Frankfort route 4.
Surviving besides the daughter with whom she resided are two other daughters, Mrs. Jessie McKinney, Kirklin route 2, and Mrs. Milford Morgan, Indianapolis; thirteen grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; a nephew; and a number of nieces.
Services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. from the Kirklin Presbyterian Church with the Rev. John Matthews, assisted by the Rev. John Spangler, officiating. Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Hunt Funeral Home, Kirklin after 5 p.m. today. The body will lie in state at the church one hour prior to services.
