DAVENPORT - Funeral services for Lloyd W. Borkgren, age 90, of Davenport, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, February 17, 2009, at the Cunnick-Collins Mortuary Chapel in Davenport. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Davenport. The family will greet friends from 5 until 7 p.m. on Monday, February 16, 2009, at the mortuary. Mr. Borkgren died on Friday, February 13, 2009 at Genesis Medical Center, West Campus in Davenport.

Lloyd William Borkgren was born on May 14, 1918, the son of Fred and Maggie (Armstrong) Borkgren in Moline. He married Dorothy B. Kay on June 4, 1943 in Fresno, CA. She preceded him in death on October 10, 2006.

Mr. Borkgren served as a Corporal in the United States Army Air Corp during World War II. Following his military obligations, he worked as a butcher. He retired in 1980 with 37 years as a meat manager from Eagle Foods. He was a long time member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Davenport. Mr. Borkgren enjoyed fishing and will be remembered for his fish fries. He will be deeply missed by all of his family and his friends. A special thank you to the wonderful staff and friends at The Fountains in Bettendorf who took such wonderful care of Lloyd. Also, thank you to the compassionate staff at Genesis West.

Survivors include two daughters, Carol Borkgren of Davenport, and Donna (Steve) Engebretson of Orion, Ill.; a Son-in-Law: Robert K. Johnson of Nashville, Tenn.; four grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Sandra Johnson; a son, Roger Borkgren; a brother and three sisters.
