Douglas of Illinois, and Martha Denny Martin Douglas, daughter of Col. Robert Martin (and gr-niece of Gov. Alexander Martin) of Rockingham Co. NC. He was 4 years of age when his mother died, and 12 years of age when his father died. Much of the time he lived with his grandmother on the Martin plantation in Rockingham Co. NC when he was growing up. He later attended Georgetown University. He married Jessie Madeline Dick, daughter of Judge Robert P. Dick, of Guilford Co. NC. Their home was at 521 Douglas St.in Greensboro at the time of his death.
