He was born and reared near Novelty, Missouri one of the seven children of Thomas Daniel and Tillie Jane Rinehart Newkirk.
He was married to the former Opal Shearer and they lived near Cherry Box and in Kirksville. They had made their home in Needles the last twenty eight years.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Demarious Carter and Mrs. Vonceil Fleshman, two sons, Neil Newkirk and Kenneth Newkirk, a sister, Mary Wilson (Wes), a sister Jessie Wilgus (Paul), a brother, Parker Newkirk, twelve grandchildren and a great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Frances Jane, his father, his mother, a sister, Fannie Hunt (Lyman) and two brothers, Roy, and Claude Newkirk.
