Wilbur Russell Skinner was born Oct. 21, 1882 at New Hampton, Iowa, the son of Chauncey and Anna Skinner.
After residing in Brownsdale, he moved to Austin 45 years ago. For the past 13 years, the family resided at 1211 Johnson. Mr. Skinner attended school at New Hampton and on Nov. 18, 1915, he was united in marriage with Kathryn Farrell in Austin.
He was employed by Geo. A. Hormel & Co. for more than 30 years, the majority of the time in the hog cut department. He was interested in hunting dogs and for may years, raised and trained bird dogs; concentrating on English Pointers. He was a member of the Minnesota National Guard and served on the Mexican border in 1916 with Company G., Second Minnesota Infantry.
Mr. Skinner died at 7:15 p.m. Aug 31, at St. Olaf Hospital after a lengthy illness. Funeral services were held at 9.am Sept 3 at St. Augustine Church, Msgr. F. A. McCarthy officiating. Interment was in the Catholic Cemetery with Mayer Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Skinner is survived by his wife, Kathryn; two son, William of Austin and Farel in military service; three daughters, Mrs. Woodrow Hull (Mary), Mrs. Clarence Johnson (Margaret), both of Austin, and Mrs. James Rypka (Grace), Brownsdale; a brother, Harry of Austin; three sisters, Mrs. Emma Holcomb, Mrs. William Pappas (Marie), Austin and Mrs. Hazel Cunningham, St. Paul; 12 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Lola Chandler, Randall, Minn.....
