Death: Jan. 27, 2013

Rachel was the daughter of Archie Maddox and Sara Ann Lang Maddox.
Rachel was named for a very prominent lady, Mrs. Rachel Green of Laurel, MS. The Green family was in the sawmill business. Mrs. Green had taken an interest in Rachel's mother who was disabled. So when Rachel was born she was named for this kind lady. Mrs. Green then became Rachel's benefactor, paying for dentist and doctor visits and gifts on special occasions. She gave Rachel a beautiful green vase with gold embossing for a Wedding gift.
Rachel was an accomplished seamstress, having been taught by her mother. Rachel's mother was disabled. She could use her arms but not her legs. She would make her own patterns and cut the pieces and hold them under the needle apparatus and Rachel would pedal the sewing machine. Rachel says her mother was very insistent that every seam must be pressed. And Rachel would do all the pressing. It was this attention to detail learned from her mother that made Rachel the fine seamstress that she was.
