Martin J. Steigerwald, 82, died June 12 at his home in Chicago's Edison Park community. Born Feb. 25, 1922, he had worked as a purchasing agent for Chicago for 32 years. He was a former resident of Logan Square.
A World War II veteran of the United States Navy, he had served on the U.S.S. Farragut, a destroyer, and the U.S.S. Idaho, a battleship. He was a member of the Wednesday Senior Bowling League at the Niles Bowl and the Norwood Park Senior Citizens Club.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Ann (Nee Ferrari); children Michael (Avis) of Alpharetta, Ga., John and James of Chicago, Donna of Arlington Heights, Patricia Cruice of Arlington Heights, Timothy (Joan) of Bartlett, Barbara (Bill) O'Brien of Munster, Ind.; grandchildren Joseph Steigerwald, Kyle, Kevin and Megan O'Brien; and his sisters, Barbara Saillor and Annamarie Webb.
His funeral Mass was held June 15 at St. Paul of the Cross Catholic Church, Park Ridge. Entombment was at St. Adalbert Mausoleum in Niles. Arrangements were by the Olson Burke/Sullivan Funeral Home, Chicago.
